Come for the bar, stay for the better-than-average bar food. First and foremost, try the "soon to be famous" Wells Burger, a specially seasoned half-pounder on a grilled pretzel bun, which costs $7.25 and comes with a side of fries. And if red meat ain't your thang, try a turkey burger made with spinach, feta, onion and garlic.
Definitely order a batch of grilled calamari, which is unsurprisingly prepared in a tasty tequila sauce (after all, this is a bar). Speaking of extraordinary appetizers, you can't go wrong with standards like nachos, jalapeno poppers or a quesadilla with spinach, peppers, corn and, of course, some serious cheese (add chicken for $1, steak for $2). For something a bit more nutritious, go with a salad or a wrap ($6.95-$8.50), both of which come with those fries I was telling you about...
The atmosphere at Wells on Wells is consistent with the neighborhood feel of Old Town, which you can experience more directly by taking advantage of the outdoor seating which, incidentally, faces Second City (come to Wells on Wells after a show, and you just might see the cast celebrating at the bar). There's live music every Wednesday night with no cover charge.
