Thorndale Delicatessen has a serious knack for sandwiches. The eatery must be doing something right, because it's been serving its Edgewater neighborhood for over 50 years. Even those who have moved to different pockets of the city go out of their way to return for Thorndale's signature sandwiches.

The deli offers changing daily lunch specials, which include a can of pop and one of Thorndale's homemade salads (potato, coleslaw, macaroni or kidney bean).

Mondays and Tuesdays are among the most popular for these afternoon deals — it's during these humdrum weekdays that the deli mixes up its famous egg and tuna salads, staples that its loyal customers swear are the best in the city.

A separate sandwich list boasts everything from bologna and liver sausage to corned beef and smoked salmon. Thorndale also opens early and offers baked goods to its morning crowd.

Stop in on your way to the office and grab a fresh donut or go for something a little more savory like the lox and cream cheese bagel.
