Anyone who's eaten his or her share of cheap Thai food in this city knows how difficult it can be to find a place where the flavor one-ups the low price. Look no further; Thai on Clark doles out sweet and spicy dishes without ever breaching the double digits.
This small Uptown eatery offers a slew of noodle plates for under $6, quite a steal when you factor in the generous portions. And for $1.50 you can add chicken, beef, pork, veggies or tofu to any dish. The menu is as simple as the restaurant's name, sticking with staples like pad see ew, pad thai and curry fried rice. If you like it hot, try the pad woon sen, a stir-fried pile of veggies and stringy translucent noodles as thin as angel hair pasta. This dish is served with a pale red chili-infused sauce guaranteed to make your nose run and your lips sting.
Appetizers include the ever-popular crab rangoons, spring rolls, fish cakes and edamame. Pot stickers are pan-fried to a golden crisp and stuffed with chicken and vegetables, served with a side of mouth-puckering salty brown sauce. Thai on Clark also offers a $5.75 lunch special (dine-in only) which includes your choice of one of the restaurant's nine favorite dishes, a cup of soup and the appetizer of the day. This place gets slammed with takeout orders, so if you're planning on staying in, be sure to call ahead as there's bound to be a wait.
