The storefront of Tahoora Sweets and Bakery, with stately slabs of granite and marble, stands out from the somewhat chaotic feeling of Devon. Large open spaces and an appealing ambiance make the interior equally inviting, but you'll want to hone in on the myriad sweets lying just feet beyond your grasp behind the counter.
Coming in all different colors and shapes, the Indian and Pakistani desserts can make your mouth water from their quiet seat in the display case. Ras malai, a sweet cheese patty soaked in creamy milk and garnished with saffron and pistachios, is Tahoora's best-seller. If you're in the mood for exotic flavors, try the carrot halwa, grated carrots cooked in honey and butter that tastes like robust carrot cake. But whatever you order, be sure to pair it with a cup of Indian chai.
Tahoora also offers Indian (and some not-so-Indian) snacks for dirt-cheap prices. You can get chicken or beef kebabs, vegetable puffs, samosas, burgers and pizza for no more than $4 each.
