Nothing says "I love you" like meat on a stick. OK, well, maybe there's something. But regardless of how unromantic it may be gnawing away at fleshy grilled flecks of meat on skewers, this little eatery in Lincoln Square is a great place to bring a date—especially if you don't want to throw down a ton of cash.
The menu offers a pleasing mix of Middle Eastern fare for both vegetarians and carnivores alike. Appetizers (average $5) range from staples like hummus and baba ghanouj to falafel and dolma. Hummus is made fresh but doesn't pack a ton of flavor, in fact it's easy to wonder if there's any garlic in the mix. Go for the crispy falafel instead, it's served piping hot and is great for sharing (there are 6 balls to one order). The only thing disappointing about these fried chickpeas is the measly bed of wilting iceberg lettuce beneath them.
An extensive list of skewered meats, seafood and veggies is where this restaurant shines, and thankfully so, given the name. Choose from steak, schwarma, shrimp and chicken. The kebabs cost about $12 each and after all that falafel you should be good with one or two skewers. Wash down your meal with some Turkish coffee (skip the bland Sara Lee house blend) or a bring a bottle of your favorite wine. The restaurant doesn't charge a corkage fee and also offers free wi-fi.
