As if an ice cream parlor with 30 different mixtures and flavors wasn't enough of a wonderland for kids, Scoops has no shortage of family-friendly decor sure to make a toddler feel as though they've just walked into the ninth sphere of heaven: Balloons on the wall, Spiderman on the birthday cakes and a rocking horse to let out some energy from the sugar high.
What's the drug of choice this time? The choices are many and the titles are cutesy. Like "Fat Elvis," banana ice cream mixed with a thick batch of peanut butter and chocolate; or the creamy vanilla and caramel cups that form "Halley's Comet;" or Horchata-flavored ice cream, an idea that was apparently way too brilliant for Baskin Robbins to ever conceive. Homemade waffle cones – Scoop's specialty – immediately stir the senses, and at just $1.50, there's no real "cone or cup" debate to be had. Old-fashioned root beer floats ($4.25), dreamsicle floats ($4.25), and frozen bananas ($2.50) round out an enormous menu, just in case 30 flavors of ice cream wasn't enough selection. There's also a solid batch of espresso options, especially handy to keep up with your child's boundless energy.
For those with a modicum of health concerns, there are a few sugar-free options, like the sweet caramel ripple. But the tagline underneath their gallons of creamy dairy goodness – "Want nutrition? Eat carrots" – seems to dispel any notion that dessert should have to be sin free.
