Outside of the Daley clan and the White Sox, there may be no other Bridgeport export more revered than the crispy thin crust pizza from Phil's. Think of Phil's as the Vito and Nicks or Pat's of the near West Side. For almost 50 years, they've been turning out pies cut into hundreds of little squares and topped with hunks of sausage from seasoned tank-like metal ovens.
If you don't want the classic, and you really want to pimp your pizza, add wafer-thin ribbons of sliced beef, green pepper, onion, and spicy giardinara and hook yourself up with a custom Italian Beef pizza. You can also score a handful of Italian specialty sandwiches and pasta dinners, but the pizza's the thing.
Recently Phil's moved from its old location on Halsted, and the new decor isn't quite as distinctive as the pies. Still the dining room outfitted with stone tile, wooden chairs is bright comfortable, and expansive enough for a huge family gathering, or a post soccer or baseball game team visit.
