This pretension-free coffee shop feels like a little burst of sunshine for those in the know. Located just north of Armitage in Logan Square, NoFriction offers delightful environs for working and playing.
Country-style wood tables that accommodate groups of five or six rub shoulders with mosaic-tile-top tables for two. Neutral-colored walls dotted with local artists' work, sing-songy sounds a la Rufus Wainright and lots of natural light provide a pleasant backdrop for the eyes and ears. Top it off with free wifi and good food, and you just might have found a second family room.
In addition to fresh fruit smoothies ($4.50) and canisters of sweets, the menu offers substantial eats for breakfast and lunch. Start the day with a breakfast tortilla or slice of quiche, or stop in at lunchtime for a Boar's Head meat and fresh veggie sandwich. Specialty sandwiches named after Chicago streets and 'hoods, such as the Logan Square (corned beef and Swiss cheese on marble rye) spice up the standard hummus plate and turkey wrap-type options.
A special menu of sweet-and-simple options will please the kiddies with cookies and milk and grilled cheese. New York transplants will love the authentic black & white cookies.
