When a restaurant offers only one main dish, like Mr. Pollo and its chicken, the place better own up. Fortunately, this tiny neighborhood eatery doesn't disappoint. Skewered and cooked on a rotisserie, the South American-style chicken at Mr. Pollo comes out perfectly juicy and tender.
You won't need any forks or knives for this one; the meat pulls apart so easily that your fingers will do just fine. The only tricky part is figuring out just how much you can eat. You'll have the option of ordering a quarter, half or whole bird. Each meal comes with two side dishes, plenty big enough to make a meal on their own. When you're not in the mood to cook, swing by Mr. Pollo's and pick up a family dinner with one whole rotisserie chicken and three sides for just under $18.
Speaking of sides, the restaurant offers a dozen or so homemade items, including yucca fries, mashed potatoes, pasta or fruit salad, black beans and fried plantains. Skip the boring stuff and go straight for the yucca and sweet plaintains (also available plain). But don't fill up too quickly; you'll want to save room for one of Mr. Pollo's tropical flavored smoothies.
