Editorial Review of Lindo Michoacan

Walking into Lindo Michoacan, a restaurant attached to a Mexican grocery store (owned by the same proprietors), you can't help but feel as though you are joining a family gathering. Everyone seems to know everyone else; babies are passed freely from person to person; and it wouldn't be uncommon to see a child sitting at the counter counting change to keep him occupied while the adults talk.

Family spirit is only part of the wonder that is served up at this spacious food stop, though. Mexican favorites, some you've likely heard of and others hailing from the Michoacan state in Mexico (if you don't know where that is, simply flip over the menu to check out a map) fill the enormous menu. Appetizers, like sincronizadas (flour tortillas melted with cheese and ham), nachos and guacamole, all cost less than $6; traditional soups, like caldo de camaron (shrimp soup) and siete mares (seven seas soup) will set you back about $11.

You can start your day with a breakfast of chilaquiles or huevos al albanil, three over-easy eggs served on top of poblano peppers covered in sour cream and red sauce, or fill up on fajitas, a variety of different moles (a house specialty), enchiladas, flautas and items from the grill like steak and pork. Lindo Michoacan also offers an extensive seafood menu, featuring ceviches, seafood cocktails and a variety of fish dishes. Try the steamed white fish filets with vegetables, which come soaking in a tasty broth of tomatoes, green peppers and onions with rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and a half-dozen tortillas on the side.
