Picture this scenario: It's nearly midnight, you've had one too many, and you need something greasy yet tasty to soak up the superfluous alcohol swishing around in your stomach. And you've sworn off McDonald's. The solution? This place, which, as its moniker promises, is open late. And when we say late, we mean only late: 9 p.m.–5 a.m.
It's an unusual concept considering there aren't many bars on this family-friendly strip of Belmont that's best known for Scooter's, the yummy custard store. But indeed, where there is late night food, there are hoards of inebriated individuals.
Even though it's housed in the former Nazarlik space, which was previously River Kwai, we thought Late Night would do something with the dull the white siding which nearly renders this space non-descript. But instead, they just focus on the color orange: the poppy bright orange restaurant sign, the creamsicle orange interior, and the general feeling of cheeriness that pervades the space.
The selection is less than impressive, but it gets the job done: egg rolls go for $2.50, while appetizers like chicken satay price out at $4.95. All of the stir-fry dishes cost $7.50; noodles are $6.95, fried rice plates ring in at $6.95–$7.95. Finish off your drunken evening with a coffee, just because it's only $1.25. And judging from the crowd, Late Night Thai might actually survive in this somewhat haunted space that keeps seeing restaurants coming and going.
