Parked near Lake Michigan, this Rogers Park vegetarian cafe presents the work of Chicago Diner's Jeff Winkowski, who stocks almost exclusively organic ingredients (down to the spices). From a packed bulletin board posted with oodles of earth-friendly happenings to a menu loaded with delicious no-meat options, it's a vortex of opportunities for those looking to become healthier.
Sit for a spell in the rather large, sun-blasted "relax" cafe, and take your time choosing from totally pure made-to-order dishes like vegan Polish sausages, portabella chicken sandwiches (made with fake chicken, of course) and thin-crust pizzas (the pesto Mediterranean is a winner). Desserts are also mostly vegan and made-in-house. In keeping with the clean feeling, there is no smoking and no liquor.
Want to learn to cook? Then you'll want to sign up for the popular Tuesday night cooking class. This two-hour, all-vegetarian class will have you whipping up vegetable entrees in no time; there's a $15 drop-in fee or pay $72 for an eight-week series.
If you're hoping to take your spiritual journey to the next level, visit the adjacent I.M.U. (Inner Metamorphosis University), which offers workshops, yoga seminars, tribal belly dancing classes and other good-for-the-soul things.
