Similar to other family establishments in the area, John's Place Roscoe Village (from the owners of the original
John's Place in Lincoln Park) is a perfect addition to this residential neighborhood. Though small in stature, the restaurant finds a sizable crowd waiting for brunch on the weekends, or out to lunch and dinner throughout the week.
The wait staff is friendly and helpful, even during the Sunday brunch rush. Dishes like the smoked salmon scramble make the occasional wait worthwhile, and the "fresh squeezed" juice is always a nice touch.
Overall, the joint is averagely priced in Chicago standards, and serves an array of home-cooked style comfort foods, including sweet potato puree (soup) and vegetable lasagna. And if the owner is present, he'll be more than happy to banter with you about the area's restaurants and history.
