Editorial Review of Joey's Brick House

Joey's Brickhouse can be summed up in three words: schmooze, booze and Jews. Joey's motto, "We're Italian Jews. Which means besides bickering, we're into food," is just the beginning of the tongue-in-cheekiness that personifies this family joint. Greg Morelli, the schmoozer of the bunch, gets the word out. His brother, Joey, cooks the grub. Mama Morelli designed the restaurant, from the open kitchen to the stage area to the flat-screen TVs that loop everything from "Ren and Stimpy" to The Big Lebowski. And Papa? He turned the former windowless methadone clinic into an attractive storefront with his own bare hands. For all the alleged bickering, the Morelli family gets the job done.

Specials abound at Joey's, most notably the $15 all-you-can-eat-and-drink Tuesday dinner and Saturday brunch. Tuesdays give you endless pizza, salad, rice crispy treats and "beer, beer, beer." At brunch, find everything from breakfast fare (eggs, pancakes, Belgian waffles) to salads and sloppy joes, washed down with a bottomless supply of mimosas, Long Island iced teas, bloody marys, tap beer and wine.

Sunday brunch, deemed "Thelonius Brunch," gives you live jazz along with your food. Come for karaoke on Thursday nights, jazz trios on Fridays and live blues on Saturdays.

Morelli says Joey's theme is fun, and it's hard to disagree. From the one-pound stuffed burger to the homemade s'mores, Morelli swears Joey's can save even the worst date. So long as you bring your appetite. Reservations recommended.
