Where does a hot-dog joint get a name like Flub a Dub Chub's? Well, if you're this hot-dog joint, owned and operated by retired physician Sam Giarratano and son, you get it from the children's storybook of the same name. The author and illustrator of Flub a Dub Chub and the Sleepwalking Martian, Tracy Rosensteel, is a family friend of the Giarratanos, and her influence is apparent here, right down to the design of the signs and menus (which include her original art). On the inside, Flub looks like a shop right out of the 1950s, with high swivel stools and round tables. The most popular menu items, according to Mr. Giarratano, are the Roe and Woody burgers ($7 each) and Flubby ($4) and Chubby ($4.75) hot dogs.
And, for a bit of extra fun, Flub a Dub Chub's has ha-ha-funny Chubby-themed T-shirts for sale, including, 'My girlfriend' or 'My boyfriend gave me a chubby,' and for the pregnant hot-dog eaters of the world, 'Chubby on board.' "This place is about having fun," says Mr. Giarratano. We can definitely attest to that.
