Set right in the heart of La Grange's downtown area, Sunflower Bistro lures in customers with its suitably hued yellow and green storefront that's visible even at night. Decorated appropriately with framed and potted sunflowers, the interior features bright yellow walls toned down by cherry wood floors and seating.
Take a seat by the fireplace, snuggle up in a booth or assemble outside when the weather calls for it, and dig in to an eclectic mix of internationally influenced cuisine by Chris and Mary Spagnola. Gourmet dishes made with organic and locally-raised ingredients fill the unpretentious menu. It lists starters like lobster and shrimp tostada with fresh peas, mango, guacamole, fromage blanc and orange-vanilla vinaigrette and pan-roasted pizza with wild mushrooms, brie, white truffle oil and fresh thyme. Main dishes include pan-seared duck breast with andouille scallion potatoes, baby zucchini, cilantro and apricot sauce and soy- and maple-glazed salmon with bell pepper, a wild rice purse and fried spinach. For dessert, the chocolate egg roll with hazelnuts, currants and chocolate chips comes drizzled with sweet and sour cherry sauce, and the ever-changing creme brulee flavors will satisfy any sweet tooth. Served with seasonal jams, honeycomb and nuts, a tasting of California cheeses has become a favorite way to end a meal.
While your dinner digests, head over to the Wildflower ‘Tini Lounge to take in a more casual setting and order a Wildflower-tini, which comes garnished with an edible orchid and mixes Grey Goose vodka, Chambord, Cointreau and pineapple juice. As two places in one, Emilio's makes the perfect date spot.
