Deli owner Dan Sullivan packs a ton of personality into this small, brightly painted storefront deli. Find the story behind the name on a plaque displayed on the front of the counter: It pays homage to Reverend William Archibald Spooner, a Londoner who made a name for himself by confusing his letters.
Test your own propensity for "Spoonerisms" when you check out the menu: Pick your bagel (Numperpickel, Soppy Peed), pick your spread (Beanut Putter) or cheese (Goked Smouda, Charp Sheddar)...you get the idea. Special sandwich recipes include the Rogers Pork, Purkey Tickle and Royola Leuben, but feel free to customize. They'll load it high with yummy options like pastrami, tuna, lox, bacon, smoked honey ham, corned beef, a dizzying array of veggies and extras like basil, cilantro, mint, olive spread and capers.
Bagels are warmed in a steamer rather than the usual toaster oven, so sandwiches come out moist, chewy and fragrant. Your meal will run $5.50-6.50, depending on toppings, and sides include pickles and chips.
The deli itself has limited seating, but once your order comes up you can step through a joining hallway to Dagel's sister coffeehouse, Charmers Cafe. This bright space offers many more tables, as well as milkshakes, juices and javas to accompany your feast.
