Editorial Review of Courtway

The Courtway, like most things housed in the midst of the busy-busy, honk-honk, clang-clang-goes-the-train ambience of the Loop, closes after 3 p.m. and on weekends. Which means if you're hankering for some of that Courtway goodness, you'll have to very quickly make your way downtown before the goodness disappears into the night. The décor is rather sparse and uneventful, if classy and well-kempt. But hey—did you really come here to take notes for your interior decorating night class? Hopefully, you came for the food, which is much more worthy (and rightly so).

This menu is a strange and interesting one, to say the least, starting with a Mexican selection that includes beef or chicken enchiladas, burritos, burrito suizos, chimichangas, fajitas or tacos ($5.75-$7.50) and more. Salads are fairly basic and include your typical chicken Caesar, Greek and Santa Fe salads ($5.75-$6). Breakfast includes mostly eggs and omelets, priced from $2-$5. Hot sandwiches include the usuals: chicken breast, patty melt on rye deluxe, hamburgers, grilled cheese, pizza burger and breaded pork tenderloin (highly recommended) at around five bucks. Cold sandwiches are more typical and include a turkey club, B.L.T. and various combinations of sandwich thereof. And lastly, there's the so-called dinner section, which includes a roast sirloin, JR. NY strip, veal parmesan with pasta, chicken mozzarella and breaded filet of perch ($6-$7).

The Courtway isn't the best place we've ever been in our lives, but it's always reliable and incredibly convenient for you loop-working fiends out there. Take note and take a bite of…whatever catches your eye. Frankly, it's all good.
