Editorial Review of The Common Cup

In the era of the omnipresent frappuccino, it's always nice to find a local cafe that is, in fact, local. Independently owned, The Common Cup is about as local as it gets. The café serves up Intelligentsia Coffee, a selection of Red Hen baked goods and specialty ice cream with your choice of mix-in ingredients. Works by local artists adorn the walls. Community knitting circles and book clubs meet here. On most Friday nights, "The Common Good Concert Series" features local musicians and benefits local non-profit organizations ($5 suggested donation, seating is limited so arrive early). Large windows keep the small cafe's seating area warm and well lit, making it a perfect place to contemplate the prior evening's activities on a lazy Sunday morning, arguably the most important aspect of any local cafe. That, or free internet, which is also available.

This dedication to the community defines The Common Cup. Whether you stop by to grab a cup of coffee to go or spend a few summer hours at one of the sidewalk tables, you'll feel welcome. Regulars and non-regulars alike are greeted with a warm smile. As I sat sipping my coffee, a man with only a handful of coins stood at the cash register. The barista patiently showed him every snack he could afford, as if his few coins were made of gold. Acts of kindness are decidedly not uncommon here.
