The space may be small (five tables in a slightly oddly shaped dining area), but the menu is not. Offering a mixture of Chinese, Thai and Vegetarian (almost every dish on the menu is available without meat) cuisine, the Asian Mix Cafe, located half a mile from Wrigley Field on North Broadway Street, is a mom-and-pop shop that provides diners with an authentic taste that is more than just standard Asian cuisine.
The cheapest way to go is with one of the daily lunch specials (available from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). Each special includes an appetizer (ranging from crab rangoons to a spring roll) and an entree (there's the standard pad Thai noodles and vegetable stir fry, or the more uncommon spicy eggplant tofu). All the typical dishes can be found on the expansive menu, and the abundance of vegetarian dishes is a welcome sight for any veggie-lover.
There's a small bench by the front door for those awaiting their take-out, though they don't typically have long to wait. For those dining in, each table comes equipped with a small selection of flavorings straight out of Thailand: hot, hotter and hottest. Be warned, these are not for the timid.
