In a time when sugary ice cream reins supreme and frozen yogurt's getting major buzz, frozen custard can be easily forgotten. But this little custard shop is making sure it gets a piece of the pie while it whips up some frosty treats for Chicago's south suburbs.
Barely visible from the street, 2 Sisters is a tiny shop that reminds you of the good ol' days. It's located at the end of a short stretch of businesses, and you have to walk up to the glass windows to be served. Menu items are posted next to the window, and once you're served you either take it home or sit on the one picnic bench that's available.
Many of the menu items are named after the owners' (who are, surprise surprise, sisters) family members and friends. Choose from three types of custard (vanilla, chocolate or light vanilla) and over 30 different toppings including hot fudge, caramel, amaretto syrup, brownie bites and even cotton candy! If you find yourself indecisive, 2 Sisters has done the work for you with its featured sundaes (try Bebe's Strawberry Smile, which has cheesecake and strawberries) and concretes (similar to Blizzards).
If you're feeling like ye olde sheet cake has overstayed its welcome at family gatherings, frozen custard cakes are available for purchase. In a hurry? Pick up a quart of custard for $5. You can even host your very own "frozen custard social," because lucky for you, 2 Sisters caters.
