Soldier Field is one of the greatest landmarks in Chicago...or was, before the 2003 renovation (at $632 million, no less) turned the 1923 stadium into a modern mess. And we aren't the only ones who think so: It was stripped of its historic landmark status in 2006.
Still, it's serves as a venue for Northwestern and Notre Dame college football; somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 people saw Gene Tunney defeat Jack Dempsey here in 1927 heavyweight title bout. Today it's home to the Chicago Bears.
