"The mosaic of Chicago’s 77 community areas offers an array of sights and traditions throughout the city." Luckily, there's no need to navigate all 77 on your own, thanks to Chicago Neighborhood Tours. Presented by the Chicago Office of Tourism, the tours showcase these areas through more than 20 distinct motorcoach excursions, exploring the artistic, cultural, ethnic and historical heritage of many communities and neighborhoods.
From learning about South Asian traditions along Devon Avenue and the Swedish heritage of Andersonville to discovering the rich African American heritage of the Bronzeville and South Shore neighborhoods, Chicago Neighborhood Tours explores the vibrancy of the neighborhoods. Other tours include Special Interest Tours that explore the dynamic people and events which helped shape the Chicago of today. The new Cultural Historian’s Choice Tours, led by the Cultural Historian for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Tim Samuelson, takes guests on a half-day trip to some of the cultural gems of the city.
The four to six-hour tours depart from the Chicago Cultural Center. Depending upon the tour, costs range from $20 to $50. Private group tours are available by pre-arrangement. Visit the Web site for the current schedule.
