Buckingham fountain is both twice as big as the one at Versailles and more famous (you've seen it, undoubtedly, at the beginning of TV show Married with Children). Poor Louis XIV!

Built in 1927, the fountain was funded by philanthropist Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother. The Grant Park centerpiece is distinguished by its Georgia pink marble studded by four bronze seahorses. The innovative fountain and its 150-foot spray come compliments of architect-planner Edward H. Bennett, whose other works include the Michigan Avenue Bridge and city plans for Detroit, Portland and Brooklyn. It's touted for its use of technology, which enables the massive light and water display. Hit up the fountain at the right night-time hour and enjoy an orchestrated production of shooting water dancing to the tune of classical music piped through the loudspeakers.
