| Aurora, IL native joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1959, playing the English Horn and Oboe. He began his oboe studies with former CSO oboe player Robert Mayer, received his bachelors degree in music from the University of Michigan, and played at Tanglewood, with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, and the Grant Park Symphony, before joining the CSO. He has taught oboe and baroque performance practice at Northwestern University, and is currently on the faculty and the University of Illinois Circle Campus, teaches oboe and english horn privately, and coaches the Civic Orchestra oboe section. He remains an active chamber musician, and has been a member of several period ensembles. He is a gourmet cook, an avid collector of nomadic rugs, corkscrews, and ceramics, and also breeds show dogs.
