A non-profit organization located blocks from the DePaul campus, this popular spot has more than just movies to rent. Facets' weekly film showings (typical runs include "The Films of Bernardo Bertolucci") present award-winning cinema from across the globe. Be sure to check the calendar for speakers, as directors, actors and filmmakers visit Facets frequently. If downloading movies filmed by shaky hands with the back of people's heads in the corner of the screen has been your idea of "renting" movies, it's time to visit Facets' online mail order catalog. The catalog has hundreds of cult, foreign and just about any hard-to-find movie you can think of.
Its rental collection boasts more than 30,000 films, and it expands each week. The helpful staff always has great recommendations if you have no idea what the latest and greatest art video, French comedy or docu-drama is. Options vary for rentals. If you're a non-member it costs around $5; annual Chicago members pay $3.50 (joining is $40 per year). The Patron’s Circle membership ($24 per month or $250 a year) allows for unlimited free rentals and no late fees. If you're a student there are further discounts; check the website to sign up and rent online.
