Editorial Review of Vice

It's all about bite-size flavor at the West Loop's "decadent restaurant and indulgent lounge." Owned by Dan Krasny (Vivo), Vice comes outfitted with the requisite swanky-spot touches: You'll find exposed brick, honey-hued walls, candle-flecked dark tables, plush chocolate-colored banquettes and leather stools. Sophisticated, oversized flower arrangements adorn the bar; Vice could be the living room of an in-demand interior designer. On the weekends, DJs create a live, ambient soundtrack.

Executive chef Chris Laramie (Everest) designed a menu of sophisticated small plates with a global edge and a French undertone. A selection of cutely titled "bites and nibbles" includes the ahi aji quesadilla, flavored with green chili dust, poblano, red bell pepper and aji amarillo sauce; the Asian tuna tartare bursts with ginger, lemongrass wasabi and cilantro. The Kobe steak and eggs come tinged with horseradish and balsamic vinegar, and the Kobe burgers, topped with camembert and arugula, are perfectly posh nibbles at two ounces apiece. Bite prices range from $8-$16.

Big spenders shell out for caviar service ($135 for an ounce of Petrossian or $355 for an ounce of Petrossian Royal Ossetra), accompanied with hard-boiled eggs, red onions, creme fraiche and buckwheat waffles. The cocktail menu has sippin' gems like the Bella Bellini, shaken vintage prosecco and peach liqueur, and the Ginger-Hito, made with mint-tea infused gin and ginger-mint syrup.
