This isn't your typical Chicago Irish bar filled with Cubs fans drinking car bombs. This is the real deal. Six Penny Bit is a dive bar filled with Irish lilts and laughter; you'll feel like you're getting drunk in someone's Dublin basement. Regular patrons from the neighborhood control the jukebox, which spouts tunes from Britney Spears to traditional Irish songs. The second "party" room houses dart boards and a pool table; only a truly brave soul would challenge the gaming gentlemen that reign supreme here.
Friendly bartenders pour cheap drinks and offer casual conversation. Draft specials are offered Sunday and Monday, and Thursday nights are Ladies' Nights, when beverages flow at prices that won't cut into your Friday night budget (but might cut into your Friday morning productivity). The back of the bar is adorned with photos of Irish soccer teams and road signs in English and Gaelic.
Six Penny offers live music on the weekends, which typically consists of a one-man band performing a mix of pop classics and Irish folk songs. Six Penny Bit does not serve food, so have an extra Guinness or two to fill up.
