The only things rebellious about this Wrigleyville bar are the black-and-white shots of revolutionary celebrities and the menu's half-pound burger. And even these feel like they belong somewhere else. It's as if the sheepish grin in Johnny Cash's portrait here is really just a disapproving cringe regarding Rebel's mostly frat-boy crowd.
Two levels make the place spacious enough to cram in half the neighborhood, and you can bet it's packed on weekends when locals and visiting Cubs fans bring in all the charm of a college party. But, instead of kegs you get overpriced beer, and all the sorority sisters must've found a better place to hang, because there are only a handful of women here. However, on occasion, you might see beer-bellied middle-aged men dancing on table-tops. If you're truly desperate for something pretty to look at, feast your eyes on the salvaged bars on each floor; they've got a sexy-chic flair and have yet to be tainted by the drunken debauchery.
Rebel's menu offers reasonably priced burgers and sandwiches ($6.50-$8.50). Edamame and salads are also available for those who'd rather spend their calories on beer or one of Rebel's sugar-rich cocktails. And if you're feeling extra rebellious, you can indulge the cookie monster for dessert. This doughy treat takes up the whole plate and is served hot with a dollop of ice cream.
