Don't overlook Konak for the crazily popular Hopleaf down the street. Seriously, trust us on this one. Consider the factors that make Konak good, if not better than, Hopleaf: A sign whose colors match the Swedish flag, a wood-paneled interior that feels like a log cabin built in the '70s and later converted into a bar, a variety of beers on tap, super cheap vegetarian pizza that you can stuff your face with after one too many, and a pool table nestled in the back.
Not convinced? Think about the hour-plus table wait at Hopleaf. Or how about the tragic reality of just how difficult it is to get a table, even in the front room, unless you get there post-haste after work. Avoid the crowds, savor the homey atmosphere and chill with the locals who really appreciate camaraderie and drinking with good friends sans the commotion of Hopleaf.
If you're looking for eats, Konak also has 'em: Better-than-standard bar food like nachos with melted cheese and chicken chops. Chances are you can catch some sports on television, whether it's baseball or football. But during election season you can be sure a bunch of liberals will shout at the televisions in absolute and utter disgust.
Standard beers on tap, a quieter atmosphere and the high chance of scoring some service when Simon's and Hopleaf are packed will keep ya coming back to the big K. Yes, we mean Konak, OK?
