Editorial Review of Grace O'Malley's

This South Loop spot features something for every Irish-style craving. Enter the spacious restaurant to find a bar surrounded by high-top tables and lined with stools populated by thirsty after-workers. A full assortment of liquor lines the shelves, beers like Boddington's satiate anglophiles, and specialty cocktails put the stiff Grace O'Malley stamp on your order. Try the bar's eponymous drink, Belvedere vodka served with a champagne floater. Daily drink specials, like $2 off martinis on Friday, cheapen the deal.

The back of the space opens to reveal a dining area full of booths and wood accents typical of pub decor. The menu dishes up a whole range of Irish classics (think shepherd's pie and rashers) and features whimsically titled sections: Try the $6 South Loop flat bread or the $7 mini-pub-cheeseburgers for an "Inkling" (aka appetizer). Continue the gastronomical journey with "Big Plates" and "Tasty Sides," or forgo the hearty reubens and patty melts for one of more than 10 salads. Families are encouraged to order plates "For the Wee Ones" so little mouths can cram in macaroni and cheese or chicken fingers.

Come Sunday morning, leave the underage companions at home and roll on in (dark sunglasses and all) to get a gander at the special brunch menu, aptly titled "The Morning After." Greasy hangover salvation comes in the form of a bacon, egg and cheese "toastie" and the house Bloody O'Mary, complete with bleu cheese olives.

Where's the Party?, 8/22/05
Plan a bash at a bar so it won't involve someone vomiting in your bathroom. Well, unless you drink too much at the bash at a bar.
