Walk into Fulton Lounge, and you've found your favorite living room in the city. It's a wide, rectangular space with a fireplace for the winter, a 45-seat patio for the summer, and elegant swivel chairs, sofas, and ottomans all year round. The drinks are terrific, if stiff in both alcohol content and price.
If you've ever thought about dipping a toe into frou-frou martini land, this is the place to try it: the specialty martini list goes on and on, and includes such tongue-tinglers as the Raspberry Truffle (served in a cocoa-rimmed glass) and the Florida Key Lime (served in a graham cracker-rimmed glass). Yup, it's official: The once-manly martini has become Chicago Woman's favorite dessert. And if one sip doesn't convince you, try three, via one of the lounge's $15 martini flights (the servings are surprisingly large).
The wine lists are brief but lovely, like good underwear. The scrumptious hand-tossed thin-crust pizzas come from a neighboring restaurant; in other words, the pizza is delivered, making Fulton Lounge even more like your living room. But here's what the Lounge has that your domicile does not: a killer bathroom. That's right, folks. The number-one reason to check out this swank, sophisticated, stylish bar is the restroom, a triumph of design and decor. Don't be dissuaded from hunting down this place because of its odd location. Just because it's surrounded by warehouses and delivery trucks doesn't mean it isn't worth an hour or five of your time.
