What does it take to win over the downtown foodie crowds? This seductive (lots of red velvet) steakhouse seems to have the secret: 100 wines and the top two percent of prime beef available.
Those wines (dubbed "Fleming's 100") are a collection in and of themselves; 60 standards are set at every Fleming's nationwide—yeah, it's a chain—and then the other 40 are handpicked by each respective branch. Seems like a lot, but the menu has a plethora of suggested pairings and the eager staff is only too happy to help you choose.
The steaks are broiled at 1600-degree temps and come strictly a la carte for $30 plus. Add potatoes to your meal, livened up with blue cheese, parmesan-peppercorn compound butter or jalapenos. If you're into veggies, keep an eye out for the sugar snap peas, tossed with red onions, carrots and a soy-chili glaze. The experience can shoot over $100 quick for a party of two, but remember, you're not only paying for the meal, you're paying for the clubby ambiance, too.
