As Wicker Park and Bucktown have grown and developed (hello, Marc Jacobs, so long, Filter), the need for watering holes that play to a varied clientele are needed. Enter Aberdeen, which has taken over the old Celebrity space on North Avenue. Half sports bar (with sleek flat-screen TVs hung around the opened-up space) half lounge (with low, wide seats and DJs at night), it offers something to please revelers of all types. Let's just hope these two crowds don't intersect during the change-over, as the game-watching, beer-guzzling types might not want to get caught up in the lowly lit dance parties and bottle-service offerings.

The menu offers the usual assortment of bar-food staples, though with upscale twists. Greasy fries, always appreciated when imbibing, are topped with black truffle oil and asiago cheese, while a comforting bowl of mac 'n' cheese is turned into delicious bite-size (and deep-fried) morsels. Both hamburgers and veggie burgers are on the menu as well. Surprisingly, nothing will run you more than $10, a boon in this part of town.

A cocktail list offers the usual assortment of drinks that end in "tini," including an intriguing dirty martini made with pickle juice instead of olive brine. On tap beer selections range from Peroni to Fat Tire, which should please beer aficionados. Those who like their libations a little less flavorful (and expensive) will be pleased to find High Life in the cooler behind the long, elm-wood bar.
