Since the roaring twenties, the Arts Club of Chicago has been showcasing the work of first-rate contemporary artists. Back then the exhibits featured the likes of Picasso; in more recent days they include Raymond Pettibone and Daniel Buren. While the upstairs areas, the events, and the permanent collection are reserved for paying club members, the first floor gallery is open to the public, free of admission, and displays five different exhibitions per year.
Since 1997 the club has been in its current location, just two blocks east of Michigan Ave. in Streeterville. The inside lobby boasts a beautiful stairwell designed by architect Mies van der Rohe.
